If you are suffering soreness or pain in any point of the body, it may be because you are carrying tension in a certain area of the body.

By using acupressure to hit these pressure points, you can make your body release the tension and you will feel much better for it.

However, acupressure can be used in a way that could potentially hurt you and cause damage, so you will have to be careful.

The acupoints which you are trying to hit are generally located in different areas around the body, usually beside bones or in between tendons and ligaments.accupressure

They will never be located directly on bones or blood vessels, as this pressure could damage them.

Acupressure is always very careful about the areas which it is laying pressure on.

One thing to remember is that you should never press to the point where you are causing intense pain. Light pain is recommended as this will help, but if you feel severely hurt by the acupressure, you need to lighten up.

Light pressure for a longer amount of time can be just as effective as short, intense pressure. You will also want to use this technique a few times a day to fully receive the benefits it can bring you.

massageIf you haven’t ever experienced a headache during your life, consider yourself to be very lucky. If you are like the rest of us, however, you may know how debilitating headaches can be.

Most of us pop a few aspirins anytime we are struck down with a headache, hoping they will take effect soon and cure us from our pain.

One remedy we should consider using, however, is that of acupressure to help us relieve our pain.

Acupressure takes different pressure points around the body and manipulates them to help relieve pain and pressure in different points around the body.

The body carries around tension and this can build up until it becomes painful, perhaps in the form of a headache. By using this technique to manipulate those pressure points, you can coax the body into releasing this tension and making you feel better.

One acupressure point is in the hand. Take your left index finger and place it in the center of the webbing between your right thumb and index finger, about 3 centimeters in from the edge. Take your left thumb and place it in the same spot on the outside of your hand.

Then, by squeezing and massaging this area for a few minutes, you can help use this pressure point to relieve the pain from the headache you may be suffering. Try this out next time you have a headache!

acupunctureA reader of this blog wanted to know what could be done in order to relieve the pain caused by sciatica using acupressure.

Well acupressure and acupuncture use the same results by applying consistent pressure at the same meridians; only the process is different.

While acupressure uses consistent pressure to be applied, acupuncture entails the insertion of fine needles at the various points.

Sciatica pain is caused by the compression of a sciatic nerve root that emerges from below the spine and runs along the both legs via the buttocks. This is why the pain also seems to originate in the buttock area and then radiates down the sides of the legs.

The compression can be due to trauma, natural narrowing of the spinal cord or degeneration due to advancing age. Sometimes it could be a pinched nerve that causes sciatica pain, or even something as seemingly benign as a bad posture.

The point or area to be targeted for the purpose of relieving sciatica pain is the buttock. The center of the depression at the side of the buttocks should get hard pressure to relieve this pain.

In this area is the largest muscle of the body and the nerve lies deep within; so it is necessary to apply hard and deep pressure. The pressure is also required to be consistent and when done in the proper way can release the sciatic nerve from muscular tension and pain.

Some people also advise the relieving of pressure on the piriformis muscle, which runs next to or surrounds the sciatic nerve by sitting on a tennis ball.

The tennis ball is to be placed squarely in the middle of the buttock and then it has to be sat on which will apply pressure on the appropriate muscle to relieve the pressure on the nerve.

It is also important to identify the cause of the sciatic pain; it could range from disc herniation, piriformis syndrome, myofascial pain syndrome, lumbar facet syndrome, sacro-iliac joint syndrome, lateral recess stenosis, central canal stenosis, tumor, infection, etc.

Many stretching exercises are also found to be extremely useful for treating sciatica pain, so it is important to keep doing these to keep the muscles of the area in good condition and the pain itself at bay.
