stressMany alternative therapists actually hold conventional therapy to be responsible to causing or at any rate exacerbating existing cancers.

Mammograms, which is a common mode of breast cancer detection and which traditional medicine prescribes should be taken periodically, is thought to actually contribute to the problem by alternative practitioners. There are several reasons for this:

  • Mammograms are performed using the same radiation techniques that x rays use; the same radiation that this thought to cause cancerous cells to grow in the first place.
  • Mammograms can sometimes yield false positive results; or show the presence of a potentially dangerous tumor that is later revealed by a biopsy not to be so. Unnecessary biopsies could be unnecessarily invasive and could also mean heightened levels of anxiety and stress which could again exacerbate the problem.
  • Aggressive forms of treatment may not alleviate the problem but rather cause greater pain and suffering.

The holistic view for avoiding breast cancer and keeping its possibility at bay, is to decrease and limit the risk factors which may be psychological, lifestyle related or due to certain medications.

For instance, certain hormone imbalances or one hormone found in excess could be to the detriment of the body and is thought to be responsible for certain cancers originating.

Synthetic hormones in the form of birth control pills and hormone replacement therapies could be examples of the kind of synthetic hormones that could be detrimental to health.

Medications themselves are often toxic to the system and many have so many side effects that they may actually be counterproductive in that more harm than good results from their use.

Lifestyle habits could sometimes be the reason for the cancers occurring. Obesity is known to increase risk as is the intake of certain food that has either been hormonally enhanced or genetically altered. Livestock is routinely treated with growth hormones that ultimately get passed on to the consumer.

Alternative therapists sometimes claim that the single most powerful weapon against breast cancer could be the psychological one.

Overcoming stress, or a long standing or deep-seated psychological trauma and coming to terms with it, may be a large part of combating a physically and mentally debilitating illness.

The very fear and apprehension associated with cancer and cancer sufferers is what can worsen the problem; conversely a positive outlook and self belief can counter it.

singing therapyAccording to doctors of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, singing could just be the therapy that could help stroke patients communicate again.

We have long known the various benefits of music, including its stress relieving properties; now it would seem that music may provide stroke patients with a chance to start to communicate once again.

The patients who have full or partial speech impairment were made to form associations with melodies and certain words and phrases. Doctors at the hospital are of the view that music can be used to treat neurological disorders. It is an activity that is able to engage and activate several different regions of the brain. People experience music as a joyous activity.

In this unique new therapy, by having patients form associations between words and musical melodies, communication is enabled. Those who cannot speak, are able to express themselves through music.

Out of an estimated 750,000 and 800,000 cases of stoke per year in the United states, as many as 20,000 individuals suffer speech impairment or aphasia.  So if this new therapy catches on, it has the potential to actually benefit a very large number of people.

Bach FlowerThe Bach Flower Rescue Remedy is, as the name suggests used to ‘rescue’ a person in an emergency situation and it works fairly quickly.

This remedy is usually a combination of 5 different remedies, i.e. Rock rose, Impatiens, Clematis, Star of Bethlehem and Cherry Plum remedies.

The Rescue Remedy is actually a brand name and the formulation also goes by the name 5 flower remedy.

This remedy is used more for urgent situations rather than deep-rooted or long standing problems. In this formulation Impatiens is used to calm a stressed or impatient individual who finds slowness of others to be exacerbating. It helps in teaching empathy. Star of Bethlehem goes to alleviate shock or trauma, and soothes it.

Cherry plus helps to center a person who feels like their thoughts or actions are careening out of control and who seek to reclaim courage in life. Rock rose helps in dealing with terror or panic attacks.

Clematis is added to the mixture to help a person who has already or who is close to disappearing into a world of their own making, an unhealthy false world. This is said to increase lucidity and alertness and can help in creating a connection between reality and fantasy.

mediterranean dietThe Mediterranean diet is defined as a modern nutritional recommendation inspired by the traditional dietary patterns of poor coastal regions of southern Italy, Crete, and coastal Greece in the 1960s. It includes:

  • abundant plant foods,
  • fresh fruit as the typical daily dessert,
  • olive oil as the principal source of fat,
  • dairy products (principally cheese and yogurt),
  • fish and poultry consumed in low to moderate amounts,
  • zero to four eggs consumed weekly,
  • red meat consumed in low amounts, and
  • wine consumed in low to moderate amounts

Now we know that this nutritional therapy can be good for preventing:

  • Alzheimer’s Disease. The Mediterranean diet can help prevent brain damage linked to memory loss and strokes
  • This diet is also said to prevent stomach cancer
  • Added to this, the Mediterranean diet also can be an anti depressant since it improves the working of blood vessels, reduces the oxidative damage and decreases inflammation

Black TeaTea, an aromatic healthy drink which is considered to be one of the most popular beverages consumed all over the world, basically prepared from the leaves of a shrub named Camellia sinensis.

Tea contains flavonoids, minerals and trace elements that are very essential in promoting overall wellness to human body.

There are four major types of teas offering hundred benefits to all different races all over the world namely oolong, green, black and white tea.All of which can be made from the same bushes yet undergo different processes.

People can gain a lot of health benefits from drinking tea, which have been tested and proven for thousands of years.

Tea serves as an immune system booster, facilitates in antioxidative activities and functions as protective agents of the body against a variety of cancers including lung, prostate and breast cancers as well as helping to reduce high blood cholesterol levels.

Among the four categories of tea, the black tea is far eminent for its stronger flavour, enriched with more caffeine as it is more oxidized compared to its other counterparts. Black tea retains its flavour for several years making it suitable for trade and long shipments.

A recent investigation on the effects of black tea consumption on ovarian cancer risk showed a very remarkable result among patients.

A case-control study which included 414 women with primary epithelial ovarian cancer and 868 women with non-neoplastic conditions revealed that those women with a usual consumption of at least two cups a day experienced a 30% decline in ovarian cancer risk.

Black tea may help prevent stomach, prostate, and breast cancer. The chemical compound called TF-2 found in black tea may slow down cancer growth as it causes cancer cells to “commit suicide” while normal cells remain unaffected.

When normal cells were exposed to the TF-2 compound, there was no reaction noted but when cancer cells were exposed, a sudden process called “apoptosis programmed cell death” took place where these cancer cells were immediately destroyed. The antioxidant compound TF-2 can also help prevent and treat inflammation as well.

Black tea can also help prevent heart attack and stroke by saving arteries. In addition to that, black tea helps prevent tooth decay for the fluorine it contains, acts as a very effective arthritis soother, and may help burn excessive fat in the body.

It is truly great that in regular drinking of tea, one can find great healing and miracle poured into little tea cups.

TaoThe beginner in the Taoist system takes the fist steps learning a series of exercises transforming the physical body in an efficient and healthy mechanism, released from the tensions and the stress of everyday life.

The target of this level is to study how to heal our mind, how to love our own way of existence, our perception over life, to learn the primal way into healing our bodies and the bodies of everyone related or connected with us.

This level of energy mastering can sometimes take around 12 months to be completely covered but in all this time we learn how to condense and preserve the vital force through a few major techniques: the inner smile, the six healing sounds, the microcosmical connection and several others.

As people grow old their vital force is getting weaker causing illness and suffering. Through Tao they can learn how to gather and refine the life force in a Qi sphere so it will stay with them forever and not lose strength or consistence.

The true Tao masters from China have over time retired in anonymity. Their place was taken to some extent by the Qi Gong masters who unfortunately have lost the secrets of the ancient practice that used to harvest the sexual energy and the inner body alchemy, but have transformed the spirit of Qi – the energy – into a science.

The energy techniques that are part of the inner Tao alchemy recognizing Qi Gong as one branch are able to get extraordinary results in balancing the nervous system, the circulation, the breathing, the gland activity, the immunity, the digestion and aid the development and health of the muscle and bone mass. The practice can help restore balance in the body temperature and in the nervous system.

These practices help us remove or transform the fatigue and stress, increase the work capacity and keep the composure and calm through inner balance before the unexpected events occurring during life.

The very foundation of the Tao practice relies on transforming and preserving the physical energy inside the body so it won’t be wasted or weakened as a consequence of the interactions with the exterior world.

The complete spiritual independence resides in avoiding the energy to be wasted through the interaction with the world but to keep it and treasure it to be used at the exact time when the body needs it. And this is the essence of the Tao way.

bach flower1For those who have reached the stage of hopelessness, when there seems to be the feeling that there is no light at the end of the tunnel, the Bach remedy of Gorse is indicated.

It is when a feeling of doom, and of losing faith in everything assails one, then this Bach flower remedy could be found to be very beneficial.

This could be with regard to a chronic illness to which a person may have given up hope.

It is true that the person’s confidence or resolve to find a resolution to the problem is part of that which acts as a curative.

As the flower of the gorse bush is lovely and uplifting to look at, so, it is understood, is it also possessed of therapeutic properties when taken internally.

The remedy can act at a physical, emotional and mental level, even at a spiritual level so that the person seeking therapy may find relief at several levels.

The Gorse Bach flower remedy is the taking of the original plant and flower based essences in the prescribed amounts. They are in liquid form usually preserved in brandy.

It is generally recommended that they should be taken diluted in mineral water. They can be taken undiluted as well if that is what the person wishes.

This article talks about a growing trend among veterinarians: that of using alternative therapies to heal pets.

This is something that reflects a growing desire among the pet owners to seek alternative remedies for their own ills that leads them to seek remedies other than conventional medicine for their beloved pets as well.

One example is that of Maggie the herding dog who received acupuncture for her irritable bowel syndrome. Apart from acupuncture every two weeks (which has ‘done wonders’ for the animal), she also has a restricted diet and herbs to treat her condition.

As many as 38% of Americans have used alternative therapies in some or other form in the year 2007 and it is hardly surprising that remedies such as homeopathy, acupuncture and natural remedies are now being tried out for pets as well.

The accent is on holistic treatment that emphasizes nutrition (raw food diet for the pet for example) supplements and preventive care. Some prefer to use alternative therapies in conjunction with Western medicine.

There is still some way to go however for alternative therapies being used on pets; this is still something that is being viewed as a little unreliable and non scientific.
